Multiplying mixed numbers

Recommended Posts

We are on section 4 in Primary Mathematics Common Core edition 5A. My son, who normally excels in math, is having quite a time with this section. It seems that there are many parts that are missing in the explanations. We have found this in previous sections, but ventured on. So, at the moment he is working on 9e on page 94 of the textbook. There were no previous examples of multiplying a fraction with a mixed number using the model presented on the page and he doesn't know how to solve it. I don't know, either, and have had a hard time finding resources to get the answer the book provides. Also, how is he to solve Exercise 3 #2 in the workbook? Where does he start? How is it to be solved? Any help would be much appreciated!
